We hope you have a fun weekend planned for this Memorial Day Weekend. This day holiday has become the unofficial start of summer, a reason to head to the water, drink and eat too much and spend time with family and friends, enjoy every moment of it but remember its true reason I remember and give thanks to the men and women who have served and protected our country and all the it stands for. I thank them and all the men and women who are still doing so.
My first mothers day was a great one. We ate brunch with my parents and sister and all of our extended family on her side. Then took a family trip to Walmart and picked up these mesh bags for food for babies to chew on. Then I got to take a long nap since I was a little tired from having gone out to a bachelorette party the night before and last my thoughtful caring husband arranged for our nanny to babysit while we went out to a fantastic dinner.
I decided I like mothers day. Who wouldn’t, flowers, gifts, a dinner date and it happens to fall about six months from my birthday! Good timing. The best thing about this mothers day is that I realized that our babies know that their little smilies and laughs make us so happy. Even when they are tired and just want to sleep they give us one more ear to ear grin because they know we melt when they do. Mothers day is a great reason to celebrate, but the best part about it is that mom just gets to enjoy the kids that day and not have to worry about cooking or the laundry.
Talia and Jordan at seven months old (white couch pics coming soon) have really started to entertain each other. It’s so cute to see them pass a toy back and forth or babble to each other, or my personal favorite chew on each other hands and feet. Luckily they still have no teeth so there have not been any biting incidents yet. We have the occasional eye gouging attempt, but so far no successes.
This video is from about a month ago. It was one of the first times they played in their excersaucers. It’s tricky trying to determine when yoru baby is ready for a more advanced toy, be it a play gym, a rattle, an excersaucer, a jumper, a bumbo or even a high chair ( most can be used from two months!) My suggestion, from my experience would be get the toy and have it ready sooner rather than later, let your baby try it out as soon as you feel comfortable with it. If your baby doesn’t seem happy or comfortable with the new toy wait a few days or weeks and try it again. These big ticket toys that babies only use for six months are great items to purchased used. You can buy a $60 excersuacer on Craig’s list for $15 or a $100 stand alone jumper for $30. Just look out for the newer models and for one that has only been used by one baby. Most of the plastic components can be removed and washed as can the seat, so you shouldn’t be bothered by the fact that it was used by another baby, it’s fine! Swings are another great item to buy used. Also, when choosing a swing used or new, be sure to choose one with an electrical plug option. A swing with dead batteries at 2am is pretty much a nightmare.
No, not that kind!
We have a great nanny, she is so good with the girls, manages both of them all day long so I come home to the happiest babies! They smile at her and love when she sings to them. She goes above and beyond to make sure that the girls are happy and that I feel comfortable leaving them with her. And to top it off she send me pictures of the girls during the day. Some of them I’ve shared with you in the past, here are a few she sent more recently.
