Everything is Interesting

by Juliemara

It’s official, they are into everything! And everything they find is the most interesting thing that ever existed and if, as a parent, I deem it unsafe, inappropriate or just plain not theirs to play with, it is the biggest heartbreak one could experience. At home, Jordan reacts to not getting she wants by crying then sitting on her tush and finally lowering herself carefully to the floor until she is laying on her back kicking her feet and sobbing. I walk away because I know that it ‘s not nice for her to see me laugh. Talia is much more convincing. The piercing scream, followed by the scrunched up face and real tears get us almost every time, we try to be strong, but this girl is good.

We have a few really great friends who have kids the same age and invite up often for play dates. While we love entertaining at our house, getting out and visiting friends at theirs is a special kind of fun. For my husband and I it’s quality time that we get to spend with relaxing friends and playing with our girls without the worry of cooking, Foror the girls the newness of a new space and more importantly a whole new set of toys is ultimate happiness. Between the two of them they explore and inspect every square inch of their new play space, which usually involves climbing as high as they can before we stop them and of course figuring out every toy inside and out. It’s fun to watch them getting excited over new things. When Jordan gets excited she says “waaaow” and shimmies her shoulders. Talia flips her hands up, shrugs her shoulders and babbles “Weetsu, weetsu.

All this playing usually tired the girls out pretty good. But it also does the same to us!

Family and Friends

by Juliemara

Just want to share some of my recent favorites from Instagram. I am gearing up to make my first Instagram book using Blurb. I have almost 700 photos I’ve instagramed, I think probably 600 of them are of the girls. I’ll have to cut some, it’s not going to be an easy task.

I love this one of Jordan on the slide. Without socks on she can climb up to the slide platform but doesn’t quite understand that she can fall off so we help her once she reaches the top to safely get down the slide.

Talia isn’t as into climbing, she would rather us just put her on the platform and help her down the slide.

Talia learns a new trick from Mommy.

Jordan’s technique for going down the steps.

Teddy seams to be shrinking

Present from Abba

Lovely love

A southern wedding, my childhood friend got married this past weekend in my hometown. We had a great weekend playing with our girls, celebrating Dori and her new groom Brian and seeing lots of friends and family.

And lastly for today, Abba little snuggle bug, Talia. Yes, they all said it would happen, one twin prefers mommy and the other daddy. Thus is the case in our house.

Candid photos

by Juliemara

20120907-133117.jpgEvery mom will tell you she wishes she had more pictures of her with her children. Not posing with them in crisp clean clothes, but pictures of her doing the things she does everyday with her children, reading a book, getting a hug, drying thier hair after a bath. But the truth is that for most families mom is the one behind the camera the majority of the time. Going through my phone to find pictures of me with our girls, these were all I came up with. They are great, but they are too few.

In our home we have other issues when it comes to picture taking, 1) although I ask my husband regularly to take pictures its hard because we always have a baby in our hands, each of us. So finding a free hand to take a picture with isn’t as easy as one, two, three. 2) I’m the creative one in the family, so trying to explain to him how to take an interesting photo without posing for it is comparable to trying to explain to him how to straighten hair, it’s not his fault, he’s a guy and when it comes to an eye for photography you either have it or your don’t. I’m no professional but I work at it, I play with composition, light and angles and hope for the best.

I will never forget years ago I was watching a home movie my mom had taken of my sister and I playing with my grandmother. My niece, Elizabeth was four at the time, she asked, “who is the mommy of this family?” she was behind the camera, out of sight. Never a fun feeling for the mom, who spends every moment hoping she did everything she could for her children that day and lays in bed awake at night hoping they stay sleep.

When I am with my friends and thier families I try to always offer to take pictures with their camera. I’m not a great photographer, but every now and then I get lucky and something is better than nothing at all.

My dear friend Shirly tool these pictures while we were at the lake this past weekend. I love them so much. The babies and the photos.

And this is a picture I took for her earlier this summer.

She’s a great photographer, so is her husband.
He took these pictures from our labor day trip.

I’m really grateful to people when they take the time to help me capture these fleeting moments with my babies.

Next time you are out with friends and their small children take a minute, grab their phone and snap a few candids, even if they are just buckling their little one into the car seat or showing him pictures in a book, I promise your friends will also be grateful.

Have a great weekend and take lots of pictures of mom with her babies!

Maj Jong Chicks

by Juliemara

At the beginning of last year I started back up playing Maj Jong with a group of girls. I played regularly a few years earlier but quit when I wanted to have more time to spend with my new boyfriend at the time (he’s now my husband). One of the girls was in my previous group, Jamie, another was a friend I’d known for some time, Alyssa, and two other girls were new to me, Saren and Alex. Alyssa announced that she was expecting right around when we all started playing together and a few short months later Saren then I announced the same. So between the three of us we would have enough baby girls to have a mini Maj Jong game! What you are about to see was planned in our hearts from the moment we all found out we were having girls. Alyssa nicknamed her unborn baby BGS-Baby Girl S is her last initial. Then Saren and I realized we all had BGS, yeah! Alyssa also bought these really cute Maj Jong inspired onesies for all the girls so one Saturday we all got together and taught the girls how to play. 20120424-231508.jpg20120424-231514.jpg
Everyone got set up and dealt. We dealt for them since their fine motor skills aren’t so fine yet.20120424-231658.jpg the girls got off to a good start.
20120424-231739.jpg some times they would check with us on a call.20120424-232023.jpg Talia was very attentive and tried really hard to get maj jong.20120424-232256.jpg and when she wasn’t the winner it was very disappointing.20120424-232329.jpg Jordan also paid close attention to her hand and what was being thrown, sometimes it got very tense.20120424-232426.jpg Livia was trying to give secret signals, even tough we tried to explain to her that she’s on her own, she has no team in Maj Jong.20120424-232533.jpg Ella was very careful not to share her hand.20120424-232634.jpg in the end all the girls were winners, how could they not be, they are so cute.
20120424-232822.jpg20120424-232831.jpg And we found the missing tile, Talia was sitting on it.20120424-232926.jpg
After the game the girls took some time out for the paparazzi (aka Crazy Proud Mamas). Ella and Livia are sitting up so nicely. Jordan and Talia aren’t quite there yet.

Why do my babies always look like they are fighting?

Sunday Funday

by Juliemara

We had such a fun weekend and did so much it’s hard for me to find time to blog about it all. Sunday was especially fun. We invited two couples over with their babes to have brunch and play!
There were plenty of toys.

The dads had fun!

The moms had fun.

At Bumbo time Talia and Jordan weren’t quite sure what to make of all of it.

But their friend Ella who is three months older promised to make sure they were OK.

Then we moved to the floor so the girls could stretch out.

Ella being older and wiser was demonstrating her fantastic yoga ability.

Right into Jordan’s face.

Miss Livia, who is totally obsessed with her mom stared at her the whole time, didn’t take her eyes off her once!

As a mom I never feel like I have enough pictures of myself with the girls or with the family as a whole, because I’m almost always the one taking the pictures, so I made sure that each family got a family picture. I love how they tuned out.

Numbered days

by Juliemara

I’m really trying not to dwell on the fact that two days from now I will leave my precious babies in the morning and only come back to them in the evening. I will not be he one reading them their books, turning on their star, making sure they do a minimum of 30 minutes of tummy time and changing 15 to 20 diapers, these are things that I am trying NOT to think about, but I am failing miserably. I’m no good at pretending tomorrow dosent exist, I’m much better at making today as best as it can be because I know that tomorrow is coming. So for our second to last day together we left the mess that is our house and went to our friend Livias house to relax and just be, we read, we ate, we played, we napped and we walked and that is all we did, and it was a great day.

I CAN do this, but extra hands are great

by Juliemara

20120103-222244.jpgOn the days that I’m home, just me and the girls, it’s actually quite nice to have that alone time with them to get to know them and to get a few things done in between feeding them every three hours. It’s not easy, but I do it. When its just us there are no distractions during feedings, they stay calm and eat well. Then there are those times when they both need to be burped at the same time, and i will admit, burping a baby is not easy when you have two of them screaming at the top of thier lumgs in discomfort. This is when its nice to have an extra set of hands around when my husband is at work. A few weeks ago several of my best girlfriends came to visit. Jaclyn and Tiffany have their own little ones (Jac has one on the way!) and Michelle has plenty of baby experience.

20120103-222421.jpgIt was great to have them around to help, to laugh with and to get to know our friendship again with this new set of rules. Jaclyn and Tiffany had plenty of helpful tips but never once made me feel like they had something to teach me. These are the girls that I ate lunch with on the sidewalk in front of the gym, that I broke formation with during graduation lineup for one final group hug of high school, who year after year are there for the celebrations and the grievances of life. They are the honorary aunts of my children and one day we will take that beach trip with all of us and our families. Cheers to friends who you have know longer than you haven’t. Thanks for coming, I loved having you.

Ps. B2 we missed you ; )
