Hope you had a happy 4th of July!

by Juliemara

I hope you enjoyed your day off to celebrate independence day. It was so nice to have a day and half off in the middle of the week. I wish we had celebrate our wonderful country day every Wednesday!

Fourth of July to me, growing up, was always a week or two at the lake, with a boat parade, a family cook out and some sparklers! My husband was not born in this country, he grew up in Israel where almost every person spends time serving in their army to protect the country, even today men and women at 18 years old enter the army for 2-5 years, some longer. Now that he lives here he takes great pride in our day of independence, more so than many of us who may take the greatness of this country for granted. So while the fourth of July will always be red white and blue and hot dogs on the grill it is also a day to recognize and thank those who serve our country to keep it the great nation that it is. A big thank you to all those who have and are serving in the armed services.

We had a really nice, fairly low key day. We spent the day at a friends backyard pool swimming and eating cookout! It was delicious and super fun. The girls loved it. Aren’t they festive! They are very difficult to get to sit still these days!

That’s Talia in red and white and Jordan in Blue and white.

The babies were all fascinated with the family dog Colby, that’s my friends dad doing doggy show and tell for the babies.

Talia especially liked the dog , I think she made a new friend.

I made a desert, I saw it in my moms better homes and gardens magazine when I was younger and it is my absolute favorite fourth of July desert! An all American trifle!

Ok, that’s not mine, I forgot to take a picture, but it looked just like this! It’s so easy, here’s how you make it.

Cut pound cake into cubes (you can use store bought or make your own, either way I like to cut off the darker sides and use them to fill in the middle)
cover the bottom of the trifle bowl with the cubed pound cake
spread whip cream over the pound cake, then layer sliced strawberries (about one package)
layer on more whip cream
spread a container of blueberries around the edges of the bowl and fill the middle with the darker edges of the pound cake
layer on more whip cream and decorate the top with strawberries and blueberries in the shape of a flag, or any pretty design.

Eat and Enjoy!

Then go swimming!
